Looking forward to a weekend where all her closest friends are finally able to get together, Val can't seem to shake the worries about the war getting closer to home every day, and not knowing whether or not her high-ranking military official dad is safe isn't helping anything either. To add another layer, her rocky love life seems to be the focus of some of her friends, including one of her best friends who confesses his feelings to her. Val is ready to dive headfirst in this new relationship feeling like this could be the first step to getting some much-needed consistency in her life. At least that's what she thinks before the bomb sirens go off forcing everyone to take shelter. Waking up alone in an entirely new world, Val's hopes of adding consistency to her life are dashed. She journeys into this new city hoping to find answers, coming across a local pizza shop owner, Lou, who is not only willing to help, but also just happens to be the alpha to one of the two warring werewolf packs who run this city. It isn't long after meeting Lou that Val meets Warrick, the mysterious other alpha who is ruthless and will stop at nothing to gain more power. Val partners with Lou to hatch a plan to track down her friends and find a way back home, but all roads lead to Warrick. Val finds a way to keep moving forward despite the odds being stacked against her, but not without her life being turned upside down while making a new deadly enemy in the process. 

Despite all odds, Val finds a way to make it out of the vampires clutches, but not without her fair share of scars, both mental and physical. Next stop: Paradise. Val, Lou, Jennie, and Chris hop to their next world, happy to discover an island of warm, welcoming sun. They hope it'll be exactly what the doctor ordered for Val to get back to herself. While they're there, they happen to reunite with a couple more of her friends bringing Val one step closer to calling her journey complete. Just as they think things are finally going their way, Val comes across Warrick, risking the healing she's worked so hard on. Those two always seem to end up in the same place, even if the last person they want to see is each other. This time, however, it becomes clear there's something bigger going on, something bigger that leads to unlikely alliances and a new goal: ending the war back on Earth.

Their enemy happens to be someone from their past who they never thought they would see again. In fact, Val blocked out all memories of him. Regardless, he's going to make her relive all those confusing and painful feelings from the past to try to bring her over to his side.Val thought she had been pushed to her limits before, but is now finding herself facing an even more impossible hill to climb. She continues to be tested in ways she never thought she would, in ways that are meant specifically to break her in every way possible. This time, though, she's not alone. Val has some formidable allies of her own - will she be able to keep adding to her group to end this war once and for all?

While working at the local pub, Val is happy to discover a couple of her friends while making some new ones. Everything is starting to look up for her - making progress with what she set out to do, a relationship that might actually last longer than a few months, and a sense of calm she hasn't experienced in a while.It quickly becomes apparent that not everything is as it seems. Since arriving in this new place, Val has been plagued with intense dreams, some of which end up coming true. Not only that, but the cathedral looming over the main street emanates a dark presence. One, she later learns, is tied to another type of creature she thought only existed in the pages of her books. Everything starts tumbling down around her bringing out Val's worst side. Is this the world that breaks her?
