  About the Author

A former secondary school teacher and university counsellor, Nancy Silcox began her writing career as an education columnist with the Kitchener-Waterloo Record. But, a teller of people’s stories at heart, she wrote her first biography featuring writer and famed cookbook author Edna Staebler. Biographies featuring Vera Good, the first Producer of Children’s Programming at TVO, and world-renowned operatic tenor Paul Frey followed. A protector and supporter of the animal world, she has also written three cross-Canada biographies of famous Canadians and the pets they love, two of which feature pets who accompany their humans to the workplace. All proceeds from sales of her pet books have been passed to Canadian pet-protection organizations, such as the Humane Society and the SPCA. She lives with her husband, Louis, and their pets in a century home in Wilmot Township, Ontario.

  Extended Description

A campaign hat is the name of a broad brimmed hat typically worn by park rangers and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. It has a high crown and is pinched symmetrically to creat four corners.
